Nintendo Classics' GameCube library is growing again. Super Mario Sunshine — the 2002 entry that sent Mario to the tropical Isle Delfino armed with a water-spraying backpack instead of a cape or cap power-up — joins the app on August 13.
It's a notable addition on its own merits. Sunshine tends to be the most divisive of Mario's 3D outings: the FLUDD-powered movement and the extended stretches without water access to the backpack make it play noticeably differently from Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Galaxy, and that difference has kept fans arguing about where it ranks for over two decades.
As with the rest of the GameCube library on Nintendo Classics, access requires the pricier Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier rather than the base subscription. No word yet on whether this particular release includes any quality-of-life adjustments beyond the standard Nintendo Classics feature set (save states, appropriate control remapping, and so on).
Worth revisiting either way — Isle Delfino holds up better than its reputation suggests, and it's been a long wait for a legal way to replay it.
