Final Fantasy XIV is now live on Nintendo Switch 2. Square Enix's long-running MMORPG went live this morning, giving the console its first major entry in the genre.

The Switch 2 release isn't a trimmed-down version — the Complete Edition bundles the base game, A Realm Reborn, together with every expansion released since: Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and the current expansion, Dawntrail. Anyone starting fresh on Switch 2 gets the entire decade-plus story in one purchase.

The launch comes with an unusual wrinkle: an early access period of roughly one month, meant to let Square Enix stress-test server stability before the service officially begins in full. During that stretch, playing doesn't require a subscription or a Nintendo Switch Online membership — both kick in once early access wraps.

One catch worth flagging for anyone already playing FFXIV elsewhere: character data doesn't transfer for free. Players on other platforms still need to buy the Switch 2 version and set up a separate subscription for it, though Square Enix is offering that subscription at half price for anyone with existing game time on another platform.

Pre-orders for the various editions — Starter, Complete, Complete Collector's, and standalone Dawntrail options — have been live on the Nintendo Store, and today's launch makes it official.
